Zverev: "In 2021, I was one of the best players in the world".
After his quarter-final victory in Paris, Alexander Zverev spoke at a press conference about the possibility of forming a Big 3 with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The German, currently world No. 3, could move up to No. 2 tomorrow if he wins his semi-final against Holger Rune.
In a press conference, he admitted that he didn't really see himself as part of a "Big 3" with Alcaraz and Sinner, and gave the reasons why: "Even if I finish ahead of Carlos this year, I consider them both to be No.1 and No.2 because of what they've won. In my case, I'm a bit older, so it's different.
I think that by the end of 2021, I'll be one of the best players in the world. With Novak and Daniil, we shared victories in major tournaments.
I'd won the Olympics, Wimbledon for Novak, the US Open for Daniil and I'd also won the Masters.
I felt I was heading in the right direction to become world No. 1 in 2022.
