Zverev: "I like the spirit of the Americans a bit more".

Zverev: I like the spirit of the Americans a bit more.

Alexander Zverev is having a quality 2024 season.

A finalist at Roland Garros, the German is no longer so far away from a return to the world's top 3, and has established himself as one of the ATP circuit's top players.

Yet he is still in search of his first Grand Slam title. Despite two 5-set losses to Thiem at the US Open and Alcaraz at Roland Garros, he has yet to achieve this feat.

Questioned at the press conference, Zverev explained that he appreciated the American mentality and the fact that he could freely display his great ambitions.

As he put it: "I also see it at home in Germany.

When I go to a Grand Slam and say: 'I'm going to win it now', then people start talking about me.

Then they start saying: 'He's never won a Grand Slam before, so he can't say he's going to win one now.

That's where I like the American mindset a bit more. Maybe they're a bit more pretentious and arrogant.

There's a well-known phrase in sport: Talk about it until it happens.

It means you have to be able to imagine it and say it to yourself before you can do it.

It's a state of mind that we Germans lack a little."
