Alcaraz avoids 5th set against Humbert to reach Wimbledon quarters
Carlos Alcaraz has just qualified for the quarter-finals of Wimbledon by beating Ugo Humbert in three hours and four sets (6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5). After dominating the first two sets, in which both players played very good tennis, the Spaniard lost his rhythm in the 3rd and then found it much more difficult to conclude the match.
On the other side of the net, the Frenchman raised his game, even scoring 6 games in a row to win the 3rd act. He then came within a whisker of taking his illustrious opponent into a 5th set where anything seemed possible.
In the end, Alcaraz was able to rediscover his solidity at key moments, and in particular to break at 5-5 in the 4th set. In the quarters, he will face the winner of the match between Tommy Paul and Roberto Bautista Agut, weather permitting (rain).
