Wawrinka to play in the Paris Olympics!
It's news that will delight many fans. At the age of 39, the inexhaustible Swiss will once again represent his nation at the Olympic Games. Dropped back to 93rd in the world rankings, the veteran has been granted a wild card, giving him the privilege of taking part in the event.
This will be the 3rd career appearance for "Stan the man", and his first since 2012. Gold medallist in doubles alongside Roger Federer in 2008 and three-time Grand Slam winner, it was his fine results that earned him this wild card.
As a reminder, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) reserves two wild-cards for former Major winners.
It remains to be seen whether the former world No. 3 also plans to play doubles, or whether he will settle for singles.
