Zverev tries to be positive: "Maybe one day we'll be able to come here and hold this trophy in our hands".
Alexander Zverev came very close. He came very close to achieving his ultimate goal: winning a Grand Slam title. Unfortunately for him, he ended up exploding. Leading two sets to one, Zverev gave up, leaving Alcaraz to cruise to his first French Open title.
Despite the immense disappointment, the 27-year-old was keen to stress the positive: "Of course, thanks to my team! With the long journey we've been on recently, it's great to have got here. We weren't far off today, but we came very close. Maybe one day we'll be able to come here and hold this trophy in our hands."
The world No. 4 also addressed the fans, whom he praised: "Obviously, I'd like to thank the fans for these two magical weeks. It was incredible, the atmosphere was extraordinary and the support I received was really great. I love playing on this magnificent court, which is one of my favourites on the circuit. I'll be back next year."
