1. Does anyone call him their favourite player to watch? He’s certainly not mine. I admire him but I don’t enjoy his game. If we compare with other GOATs from different sports (Ali, Messi, Warne, Jordan, Woods etc), they all have/had mesmerising flair. They were/are special and unique. Djokovic is neither easy enough on the eye nor creative enough to be mentioned with those names. It’s attritional. Most attritional sportsmen are not considered to be GOATs. Djokovic is exceptional in contrary way. I’ll only really ever remember his epic wars with Nadal.
2. This shouldn’t be happening (in terms of someone his age dominating), but he’s now playing in the weakest era of tennis since Herman/Ivanisevic. These players have had plenty of time to learn and improve but they are gutless wonders. I’m pretty sure fit Federer and Nadal would beat them as well. Respect to Djokovic for beating them though I guess.
3. He never gets injured. It’s weird. Is he a robot?
And how do we measure eras in terms of weakness? Players like Med, Carlos, Tsitsi and Zverev have been pretty consistent at the top for a number of years now. And their style of play has moved on immeasurably from the era you describe (thanks to Fed, Rafa and others developing the game beyond big serves).
