1. I wonder why Byes are given to seeded players? In this case 32 byes are given to top seeds while 48 players are competing in qualifiers. Isn't this an unfair advantage to top seeds? Aren't 32 players denied the chance to participate?

2. Also, why have a qualifying draw and not a straight entry based on the ranking?

This actually gives lower ranked players the chance to participate.The 32 best ranked players get in automatically and the other 32 spots are up for grabs in qualifying rounds. By having straight entry based on raking, there would be no way a lower ranked player could participate. It’s not an unfair advantage to the seeds, it’s an opportunity for the non-seeds.

Thank Alex, let's leave the qualifying aside. About Byes: Top 32 players got byes in the 1st round. This means these 32 players advanced to 2nd round without playing 1st round matches. So my point is why give them byes in 1st round? Aren't there enough players to fill those 32 spots?
