Djokovic beats Hijikata in Brisbane first round and reveals where Murray is now
Novak Djokovic, surprise entrant at the ATP 250 Brisbane tournament, didn't have to work too hard in his first round match against Australian wild card Rinky Hijikata.
The Serb won 6-3, 6-3 in 1h14 of play. In a post-match interview, he talked about his performance and his new coach, Andy Murray.
He said: "Starting the season with a win is very important. Hijikata deserves a round of applause for his performance today. I wish everyone a happy new year in advance.
I have plans for New Year's Eve, my family is here. We're going to watch the fireworks in Brisbane.
Murray is currently skiing with his family, so I hope he doesn't injure himself before arriving in Melbourne. We communicate every day, and I can't wait for him to be on my team."
In the second round, Djokovic will face a familiar foe in Gaël Monfils.
