Murray on his collaboration with Djokovic: "This is a unique opportunity for me, I can't wait to start competing"

Murray on his collaboration with Djokovic: This is a unique opportunity for me, I can't wait to start competing

It's one of the questions of the early 2025 season. Novak Djokovic will be playing the Australian Open with his new coach, Andy Murray.

Since the announcement of their collaboration at the end of November, the tennis world has been abuzz with the news.

The pairing was unexpected, but the two former world No. 1s and ATP Tour rivals are going to be on the same side this time.

While both men were present at an exhibition on Rod Laver Arena, Murray was asked by Australian Open media on court after playing doubles with Victoria Azarenka (while Djokovic was paired with Zheng Qinwen) about the Serb.

"Novak asked me to help him, which was a shock for me. When he called me, I wasn't expecting it at all.

I told him he'd have to ask my wife to see what she thought! She supported me in my approach, and this is a unique opportunity for me.

We'll see if I can do anything. For the moment, everything's going according to plan.

Novak is not only one of the greatest sportsmen of all time, but also one of the greatest athletes in history.

I expected him to work very hard. He's diligent, he's always looking to improve. I can't wait to start competing.

It's true that we've faced each other here a few times, but I've never been able to beat him, unfortunately for me (four times in the final in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016 and in the semi-finals in 2012).

Now, my aim will be to sabotage his work to prevent him from winning another one," said the Scot with a touch of humor and irony, as usual.
