Novak Djokovic, who was forced to retire from his semi-final match against Zverev, left Melbourne injured and will have to take a recovery period of unknown duration.

On his social networks, the man with 24 Grand Slam titles had a sympathetic thought for Zverev, who will play in his first Australian Open final on Sunday.

Djokovic: "I tried to recover for today's match, but I couldn't go any further. Nevertheless, there are some positives to take from this year's Australian Open.

Congratulations to Alexander on reaching another Grand Slam final. I wish you every success in winning the title, because you deserve it, my friend."
