Tomic investigated for match-fixing in 2022

Bernard Tomic, former world No. 17 in the ATP rankings, has been suspected of match-fixing in the 2022 season, as revealed by the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Australian, whose career has already seen a number of fracas, was questioned by the Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in 2022, concerning two suspicious defeats.

The first was in the 1st qualifying round of the Australian Open, where he lost in two sets to Roman Safiullin (6-1, 6-4) and played with the Covid.

The second was during a match against Quentin Halys at the Istanbul Challenger, where he lost 6-0, 6-1.

Following these two matches, which had generated suspicious bets and winnings of between $10,000 and $180,000, the ITIA questioned Tomic and investigated his telephone.

Despite an interrogation in which Tomic was reportedly "arrogant and confident", the investigation against him was halted due to a lack of evidence.

The 29-year-old was allowed to continue his career, while one of the bookmakers did not pay out any winnings from the matches.

Tomic, now ranked 212th in the world, played in the 1st qualifying round in Melbourne this year, where he lost to Jozef Kovalik.
