Pablo Carreno Busta made his return to the ATP circuit at Roland-Garros in 2024, after being away from the tennis courts for a long time due to an arm injury.
Currently ranked 149th, the Spaniard no longer has a protected ranking, which means he has to play mainly on the Challenger circuit in order to collect points to make his return to the top 100.
The former world No. 10 says: "Because of the injury I've had in recent years, I've lost my ranking, I no longer have a protected ranking and I need to improve my current ranking if I want to get back on the ATP circuit.
The Challenger circuit also has a high level of competition, so my aim is to play matches, gain confidence and win as many points as possible.
At the moment, I'm at 100%, I've been able to train and I can play without arm pain. I played in the United Cup and the Australian Open this year.
My body has reacted well, so I'm confident about my physical health. Depending on my results, I'll decide whether I'll play Indian Wells and Miami.
Carreno Busta is at the Tenerife Challenger this week, where he will face Andrea Arnaboldi in the first round.
