Keys: "It's hard to live in hotels".

Keys: It's hard to live in hotels.

Madison Keys has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, beating Elena Rybakina.

The American is used to playing important matches, having already contested a Grand Slam final, at the US Open in 2017.

In a press conference, she spoke about her experiences in professional tennis: "I've had some great years, but also some tough seasons.

Overall, I think I've been consistent. I think part of that is going out to enjoy and surrounding myself with good people along the way.

It's very difficult to practically live in hotels. That's the most complicated part of this sport, on top of having to compete every day."

She will face Elina Svitolina for a place in the semi-finals in Melbourne.

Poor choice of words from Madison. I'm sure there are lots of people who would love the difficulties of living in what I would imagine is a very nice hotel.

@dave S. That was not a poor choice of words. It is 100% difficult to constantly be in hotels, away from home and away from family regardless of what you do and why. Doesn't negate the truth.

Madison is 100% correct. Tennis is a sport with virtually no off-season, no salary, no expense account, and no home court. Unless you're a top 20 player in the world, it's a very difficult life. You earn every dime you make.

She has all the right to make that comment. Maybe at the beginning hotels might be fun in your teens, but she’s been at it since her 13+ years. At some point there is no more fun in traveling like that.
