Roddick on Italy's Davis Cup-BJK Cup double: "She made the right choices and the right investments".
Italy dominated the team competitions at the end of the season. The Squadra Azzurra completed the Davis Cup-Billie Jean King Cup double in the space of a week.
Buoyed by its two No. 1 players (Sinner and Paolini), the Italian nation dominated the Netherlands in the men's competition and Slovakia in the women's for the grail.
This is the second consecutive time that Italy has won the Davis Cup.
Continuing his formidable 2024 season, Jannik Sinner didn't flinch when it came to taking his team to the roof of the world, and his victory over Tallon Griekspoor took his country to seventh heaven.
In his podcast, Andy Roddick reflected on this Italian double: "Italy has looked for ways to develop players, offering them many opportunities while keeping costs low for athletes.
In America, a player who wants to take part in a Challenger might have to fly to Sri Lanka. Italy has made the right decisions and investments.
Today, they're at the top of world tennis, starting with Sinner, and the whole movement follows," he elaborated.
"There's another aspect to consider. TV audiences for Sinner's matches are exploding, kids are watching it and many of them are choosing to play tennis.
The number of club members is skyrocketing. In Italy, tennis doesn't compete with ten other sports, as it does in the United States. It's mainly tennis and soccer," concludes Roddick.
