Rotterdam tournament director Krajicek on Alcaraz: "Ticket sales have soared since the announcement of his arrival".
Richard Krajicek, Tournament Director of Rotterdam, talks about his tournament's impressive entry list and the financial risks involved.
This year's line-up includes Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. The tournament kicks off on February 3, while the Australian Open closes on January 26.
This one-week gap between the two tournaments could prove detrimental for Krajicek. A final at the Australian Open played by one of the stars present in Rotterdam could mean forfeiture of his tournament.
He says: "Ticket sales have soared since we announced his arrival.
We don't do this every year or two. His arrival has added to the basic budget.
We only do it in very special cases, like in 2018 with the arrival of Roger Federer.
We're cautiously optimistic, even though we know there's a risk of cancellation."
