Wilander: "If he wins in Australia, Alcaraz will be the most complete 21-year-old in the history of tennis".

Wilander: If he wins in Australia, Alcaraz will be the most complete 21-year-old in the history of tennis.

With two days to go before the Australian Open 2025 kicks off, Mats Wilander gave a short interview to Spanish media outlet Relevo, in which he spoke mainly about Carlos Alcaraz's goal of victory.

The world No. 3, who has already won three other Grand Slams, could complete the career Grand Slam at the age of 21, a record in tennis history.

The former Swedish champion commented: "The fact that Carlos can complete the Grand Slam in two weeks' time is emotionally incredible.

Because he's the most exciting player we have today, without a doubt.

If he manages to win in Australia, it means he's the most complete 21-year-old we've ever had in the history of tennis.

Because you shouldn't be able to win every major tournament at this age. You shouldn't be able to play on grass, clay and then hard, on the fastest courts in the world and win too.

He'll be 22 in May, and there's never been a player as complete as he is. Even Roger Federer wasn't as complete."

But a failure this year wouldn't necessarily be negative, according to Wilander: "Does it matter if he completes the Grand Slam in his career? No, I don't think so.

It would even be better if he didn't.

If you can still have goals and reasons to play and keep motivated, that's a good thing.

My reason to keep going was that I'd never won Wimbledon, so I needed to keep going and going."

Watch out for Fonseco!

He's going to be right up there with Sinner and Alcaraz.
