WTA 500 Adelaide: Keys wins Pegula and the 9th title of her career

The WTA tournament in Adelaide delivered its verdict this Saturday. The final pitted number 1 seed Jessica Pegula against Madison Keys in a 100% American clash.

The two players have won one match each in their last two encounters, but it was the current world No. 20 who won the last one, at the US Open 2023, where Pegula was swept aside (6-1, 6-3).

Buoyed by her big week, Madison Keys, who came through Haddad Maia, Ostapenko, Kasatkina and Samsonova, rounded off her tournament in the best possible way, once again getting the better of Pegula (6-3, 4-6, 6-1).

This is the 9th WTA title for the 29-year-old, who is guaranteed a return to the top 15 just before the Australian Open (14th). It is also Keys' 30th win against a top-10 player.

Pegula has already reached one final in her comeback tournament, and this run to the final sees her climb one place to 6th, just ahead of Elena Rybakina.

At the Australian Open, Jessica Pegula will take on local player Maya Joint, while Madison Keys will arrive with confidence to face compatriot Ann Li.
