Sabalenka impressed by Keys' level of play: "The depth of her balls was insane".
Aryna Sabalenka was beaten in the Australian Open final by Madison Keys, her first defeat in Melbourne for two years and after winning two titles.
Faced with an opponent who had seemed to be on a mission for several matches in this tournament, the world No.1 couldn't find the key and showed her frustration after match point by breaking her racket.
In a press conference, she explained that she had not found the solutions to counter Keys in this final:
"I couldn't play my game. She played incredibly well, the depth of her balls was crazy. I felt like she was overheating.
She always starts her matches well and aggressively. It's always a question of whether you can handle that power and return it.
Today, I didn't play at my best. I couldn't put her under pressure. She didn't feel any pressure.
Obviously, given that she was in the final, I expected her to play some very good tennis."
