Video - Swiatek's controversial point against Navarro
Iga Swiatek is in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The Polish player got the job done against Emma Navarro, ranked 8th in the world, winning in two sets (6-1, 6-2).
Swiatek will be playing in her second semi-final in Melbourne, three years after her first.
The match was marked by a controversial point that was won by Swiatek. With the score at 2-2 in the second set, the Polish player won a game point.
On a run forward, the ball seemed to bounce twice, but the world number 2 managed to get the ball up.
With Navarro at the net, Swiatek finished off the point with a backhand winner, winning her the game in the process.
The American, for her part, immediately reported the incident to the chair umpire, requesting the use of video.
However, video could not be used, as the rules stipulate that in order to review a contentious situation such as this, a player must stop immediately rather than continue to play the point (see video below).
Swiatek went on to win the last three games of the match, becoming the fourth and final player in the women's draw to qualify for the semi-finals of this Australian Open 2025.
