A rare occurrence at the United Cup. As Alexander Zverev and Zhang Zhizhen opened the final group match between Germany and China, the match between the two men was interrupted for around 15 minutes.
This forced stoppage was not due to weather conditions, as no rain was reported in the Australian city.
However, with the score at 2-0, 40-40 on the world number 2's serve in the second set (Zhang had won the first 6-2), the electronic automatic ball detection system failed on the Perth center court.
The problem was solved fairly quickly and play resumed straight away.
In sporting terms, the winner of this match between Germany and China is guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals of the United Cup 2025.
