Alcaraz defeats Struff in a stunning match: "It was difficult for me to manage my emotions".
This Round of 16 match, a remake of the 2023 final, lived up to all its promises. In a match of insane intensity, Carlos Alcaraz had to work hard to dominate an excellent Jan-Lennard Struff (6-3, 6-7, 7-6). Faced with a player with an ultra-offensive, net-oriented style of play, the Spaniard found it hard to cope. By his own admission, he went through all kinds of emotions (missing 4 match points at 5-3 in the 3rd set).
Reflecting on his stunning victory, Alcaraz acknowledged his nervousness and, above all, thanked the Spanish fans who supported him right to the end: "Honestly, this match reminds me of last year. It was really tough from the first point to the last. It was a great fight and it was difficult for me to manage my emotions... to manage some difficult moments in the match. Serving for the match was really difficult after leading 40-0. I'm really happy that in the end it didn't affect me, my game or my mentality. I just kept on fighting. That's all that matters. I have to say thank you to the people who supported me right up to the last point. I think they pushed me not to give up and to keep fighting. I'm going to say that this victory is thanks to them too. It's incredible to have this crowd behind me."
