Gasquet honored for his last in Montpellier
Beaten in the 2nd round of the Open d'Occitanie by Tallon Griekspoor, Richard Gasquet bade farewell to the Montpellier tournament on Thursday.
After the match, the tournament organizers honored his career by unveiling a poster with the caption "Merci Richard", as well as presenting him with a frame featuring photos from the three editions in which he won titles (see publications below).
Accompanied by his father on the Patrice Dominguez court, Gasquet then gave a speech to the public who had come to support him during his match:
"It's got to happen, saying a few words for your last match at home. I was born here, this region has a huge place in my heart, it's my home no matter what.
Winning the title here three times, I never would have believed it. I've always had a lot of support in this region, from the time I was nine until now.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll be back in the stands in the future to see the youngsters and the French."
