Becker ahead of Sinner-Zverev: "It's the perfect final
This Sunday, January 26, the men's final of the Australian Open
2025 in the men's draw.
Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev face off for the title in a final that pits the top two seeds against each other in Melbourne.
A first in this tournament since 2019 and the final between Djokovic and Nadal.
Tennis great Boris Becker gave his thoughts on the two players for Gazzetta Dello Sport.
"Sinner didn't play his best tennis in the first week. The match that most illustrates this impression is the one against Rune, where he felt unwell.
He was quite lucky because the Dane couldn't take advantage of it. Jannik is a great player and has the mental strength to make the difference.
I saw against Shelton that he had cramps in the third set - I'm sure that was because of the tension, and certainly not because of the length of the match.
It means that this year, he's feeling more pressure, and that's normal when you're defending champion.
As for his opponent, he's the best Zverev we've ever seen. He was very consistent last year, reaching the final of the French Open.
The key to his game is his serve. It's going to be a very interesting match for Sinner, who on the contrary has the most important element on the return.
I think it's the perfect final, between the two best players of the moment.
If Jannik manages to return Sascha's serve and start the exchange, in which he knows how to be very aggressive, then he'll have a real chance of retaining his title," assures Becker.
Rendezvous at 9.30 a.m. French time for the final showdown between the top two players in the ATP rankings.
