Despite being the favorites in the semi-final duel between Poland and Italy in the Billie Jean King Cup, the Poles lost 2-1. In the first match, Magda Linette was stunned by Lucia Bronzetti (6-4, 7-6).
The second match was a clash between Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini, respectively 2nd and 4th in the world. After a long battle lasting 2h38, it was the Polish player who came out on top (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
To decide the tie, the doubles was decisive. Italy's Errani/Paolini triumphed over Kawa/Swiatek (7-5, 7-5).
The Italians thus book their place in Wednesday's final, where they will face Slovakia or Great Britain.
