Boisson Eliminates Samsonova in Beijing: Frenchwoman Opens Doors to Round of 16 at WTA 1000

Loïs Boisson delivered an impressive performance by defeating 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova at the Beijing WTA 1000.
After her victory against Dalma Galfi in the first round, Loïs Boisson aimed to confirm her form against a seeded player at the Beijing WTA 1000. The last remaining French player faced Liudmila Samsonova with the intention of securing a win against the world number 21. This marked the first encounter between the two players on the main tour.
Boisson, who had spent nearly 3 hours and 30 minutes on the court against the Hungarian in her opening match, demonstrated that she had recovered well after that marathon first-round encounter.
Although Samsonova has been struggling since her quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, the Russian remains a tough opponent. But the Dijon native got the job done. Both players solid on their serves, the two women delivered a closely contested first set, until 3-2, when Boisson chose to break.
An advantage she managed to maintain until the end of the set. However, the situation was a bit different in the second set. Samsonova, with her back against the wall and broken early, found the resources to come back and take the lead at 4-3.
Trailing 0-30 on her serve, the Frenchwoman then closed out the match with twelve consecutive points, securing the win (6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 22 minutes). Boisson will face Emma Navarro, world number 17, for a spot in the quarterfinals.
