Buenos Aires tournament makes history with the end of clay court linesmen

The Buenos Aires tournament is the first clay-court event of the year to be played without linesmen.

This is a great first in the history of the ATP circuit, since, despite the replacement of linesmen at many tournaments, clay-court events were refereed without electronic assistance.

This will no longer be the case this season, as the ATP has decided to apply electronic refereeing to all events on the calendar from 2025.

As far as clay is concerned, chair umpires will no longer need to check ball marks, which should reduce the number of controversies that have been caused by the naked-eye verification that has existed until now.
