Although the Norwegian made an appearance on Tuesday in mixed doubles, nine days after his retirement in Cincinnati, the former finalist of the tournament hardly reassures regarding the state of his back.
A shortened practice before the draw
On Wednesday, the former world No. 2 had to cut short his planned practice session with Argentine Tomas Etcheverry.
The two men were playing service games when Ruud appeared to feel discomfort on his serve. After only 50 minutes spent on court and 11 minutes serving, the Norwegian ultimately decided to stop the session.
Enough to raise concern less than 24 hours before the draw in New York.
