Christopher Eubanks on Draper-Murray: 'The Dynamic Should Be Excellent'
Christopher Eubanks says Andy Murray's addition to Jack Draper's team is 'almost poetic' and could help Draper elevate his game, especially on grass.
A collaboration that has already intrigued the tennis world a great deal.
While the future partnership between Jack Draper and Andy Murray is generating plenty of reactions, Christopher Eubanks has also expressed particular enthusiasm about seeing the two Brits work together.
'It's Almost Poetic'
Asked about this new collaboration, the American immediately drew a parallel between Draper's journey and Murray's at the same age.
"I'm really excited to see Draper add someone to his team — and the fact that it's Andy Murray makes it even more interesting. To me, it's almost poetic.
Andy Murray was a British number one who, early in his career, was very defensive and had a lot of success playing that way. But people kept telling him, 'You need to be more aggressive.'
Then he brought Ivan Lendl into his team at age 24, and Lendl helped Murray change his mentality and play more offensively. That's when we saw Andy become world number one and win Grand Slam titles."
'Murray Can Still Elevate Draper'
According to Eubanks, Murray could now pass on that same evolution to Draper, whose game has already transformed considerably in recent months.
"Now, Jack Draper is also 24. Early in his career, he was a bit more defensive and consistent, but over the past year or so, he has become much more aggressive. I think Murray will help him develop that aspect of his game even further."
'Their Relationship Could Be Excellent'
Finally, Eubanks was very optimistic about the chemistry between the two men and their potential on grass.
"The dynamic between them should be excellent. Murray has a lot of respect for Jack, and Jack obviously respects Andy enormously. I can't wait to see what they accomplish together on grass."
