Jannik Sinner played the second singles of the quarter-final between Italy and Argentina, beating Sebastian Baez 6-2, 6-1 to win the decisive doubles match.
Buoyed by his success at the Masters, the world No.1 didn't really waver against Baez, Argentina's No.1 but far from an indoor specialist.
After three games of adjustment, Sinner broke at 2-1 to take the lead in the first set. At 5-2, the two men battled out a ten-minute game, which the Italian finally won on his sixth set point.
In the second set, Baez lost his serve very quickly on two occasions. Despite a hard-fought game at 4-0, with four break points, the Argentine finally succumbed to the powerful play of the world No.1.
Argentina and Italy are now tied (1-1) in this quarter-final and will now play a decisive doubles match between Maximo Gonzalez and Andrés Molteni and Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
