Former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov Falls Again in Bordeaux, Enters Roland-Garros Qualifying Amid Confidence Crisis
Grigor Dimitrov's very difficult period continues.
With just one win since the start of the season, the 34-year-old Bulgarian is going through a huge crisis. Having dropped out of the top 100 a few weeks ago, he now sits at No. 170 in the ATP rankings.
A sixth straight defeat
Still searching for his first win on clay this year, Dimitrov chose to play the Challenger in Bordeaux this week.
Facing qualifier Martin Damm in the first round, the former world No. 3 eventually lost in two tie-breaks (7-6, 7-6), conceding a sixth consecutive defeat.
A brutal fall
Dimitrov will therefore enter the Roland-Garros qualifying rounds with very little confidence.
A difficult situation to imagine just a year ago, when the Bulgarian led Jannik Sinner two sets to love on Centre Court at Wimbledon Championships.
His retirement that day, caused by a pectoral injury, seems to have marked a real turning point in his career and, at least for now, pushed away any idea of seeing him compete with the best players on tour.
