Holger Rune was eliminated in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros this Sunday by Lorenzo Musetti. An early exit that falls short of the expectations for this year's Barcelona tournament winner.

The 2025 season has already been marked by physical issues for the Danish player. He states: "I haven’t really been able to train during the clay season, so physically, I wasn’t very confident about my level.

And I don’t think I was good enough. I wasn’t fast enough. My backhand and serve were really poor.

I don’t think it’s because I lose sets from time to time. That happens to other top players too. It can happen; it’s unavoidable. I need to improve physically.

I will never be able to fully exploit my potential if I don’t reach 100% of my physical fitness. So I hope to achieve that.

We’re currently discussing with fitness coaches. Something will definitely happen in the coming weeks."

Rune will next compete at the Queen’s tournament from June 16 to 22.
