Only after losing the point did the Russian request a video review. Chair umpire Aurélie Tourte accepted the request and ultimately sided with the Russian.
A decision with major repercussions: moments later, Medvedev held at 0-30 before clinching the crucial game on his way to victory.

Questioned post-match, Daniil Medvedev sought to clarify the situation.
"Now I have more information and realize I should have requested a review sooner, without waiting for the point to end.
I asked the umpire: what should I do next time? She said I could call for video. So I did, and she ruled on it."

But not everyone took kindly to this explanation.
Former American player Tennys Sandgren (career-high No. 41) was far more critical.
"For that challenge to make any sense, Medvedev should have stopped the point.
Imagine contesting a point after four shots, especially after already losing it… It's ridiculous."
