Hailey Baptiste opens up eight weeks after knee surgery, says she won't return until 2027 and it's 'difficult' being at her hometown tournament without playing.
Hailey Baptiste opens up about her long absence from the tour.
Present in Washington, the American player is still closely following the ATP and WTA tours, two months after her serious knee injury at Roland Garros.
She took the opportunity to give an interview to the WTA to provide an update, as she is not expected to return to the courts before 2027.

« The recovery is going well. It's been eight weeks since my surgery. I'm doing a lot of rehab sessions, and everything is fine.
I'm starting to feel stronger and getting back to a level where I can really sweat in the gym, not just move around a bit and do light exercises. So it's positive. », Baptiste first said.

The one who beat Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid in April, Baptiste discussed the difficulty of not being able to play this week in Washington, her hometown:
« I have no idea (about the WTA results), I couldn't tell you what's happening. I just needed to completely cut off, because it's still a pretty difficult time emotionally not being able to play and everything that goes with it.
It's even quite complicated to be here this week. It's usually my favorite week of the year, the one where I get to play at home, so it's tough to be here without being able to play the tournament. But I'm happy to have come to support Frances (Tiafoe). »
