US Open Final Fails to Fully Convince John McEnroe, Who's Eager to See Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner Together Again
John McEnroe was clearly not particularly thrilled by the US Open final between Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton, won by the German in four sets (6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2).
As he signed off on ESPN, the tournament's broadcaster in the United States, the former world No. 1, known for making headlines with his comments, clearly showed his impatience to see Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner back.
A Clear Preference
"I can't wait (to be at the Australian Open). Carlos and Jannik, please get back on your feet quickly."
McEnroe has never hidden his admiration for Alcaraz, whom he has regularly compared to the members of the Big 3.
His little comment at the end of this final shows in any case that Zverev's coronation, as he clinches his second Grand Slam title this season, does not seem to generate the same enthusiasm among all former players.
