Krejcikova: "It's impossible to believe. How could this happen? I have no idea."
Barbora Krejcikova couldn't believe, as she gave her winning speech, that she'd been able to win Wimbledon. It has to be said that she had not arrived in London in the best of circumstances. First with a back injury, then a persistent virus that weakened her for many weeks, she had won just 3 out of 10 matches since the end of January.
Barbora Krejcikova: "I have no words right now, no words at all. It's just unreal what's happening. This is without doubt the most beautiful day of my tennis career. And also... the best day of my life. It's really hard to explain how I feel.
I'd like to congratulate Jasmine and her team. She's had two great weeks here and it was a great final. She fought on every ball. And today, in the end I'm the lucky one, but she played in the French Open final a few weeks ago and it's fantastic what she's achieved in such a short time. [...]
I don't think anyone (in my family and in the Czech Republic) really believes it. Nobody really believes that I made the final and won Wimbledon. I still don't believe it myself. I mean, it's impossible to believe.
Two weeks ago, I was here, I'd just had a very tough first round, over 3 hours, which I won 7-5 in the 3rd set (7-6, 6-7, 7-5 against Kudermetova). I wasn't really in good shape. Before that, I'd been injured (back) and sick (persistent virus).
I mean, it's incredible, now I'm standing here and... and I'm the winner of Wimbledon. How did that happen? I have no idea."
