Kyrgios: "There are some good players out there that nobody knows about".
Nick Kyrgios missed most of the ATP 2024 season with knee and wrist injuries. During his absence, he commented on matches, notably at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
He talked about his experience and his opinion of other commentators: "I'm not a very critical commentator.
I don't like it when commentators criticize, because it's not easy these days, the game is so physical. I think right now, commentary needs a bit of an overhaul.
I guess when you've really played and understand Futures and Challengers, like how many players there are worldwide, you understand how hard it is to be in the top 128 players to play a Grand Slam.
Our job as commentators is to study these players and find out about their careers, and I hope their names will be known.
We can't keep promoting the same players over and over again. There are good players out there that nobody knows about. I take that into account when I comment."
