Lamens' daydream in Osaka!
Suzan Lamens won the first WTA title of her career in Osaka on Sunday. Having come through the qualifying rounds, she dominated Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell in the final (6-0, 6-4). She succeeds American Ashlyn Krueger in the event's honors list.
Lamens enjoyed a dream week on the Japanese courts. The Dutchwoman dropped just one set in seven matches, in the quarter-finals against Romania's Ana Bogdan (4-6, 6-3, 6-3). She is the second qualifier this season to win a title on the WTA Tour, after Briton Sonay Kartal in September in Monastir.
At 25, Lamens had only beaten two Top 100 players since the start of her career. She beat three of them in Osaka: Viktoriya Tomova, Lucia Bronzetti and Diane Parry. So much so that she will be making her own debut in the WTA Top 100 this Monday. She will be ranked 87th in the world.
