Medvedev very positive ahead of his Melbourne debut: "It's been one of my best preliminaries".
Daniil Medvedev, three-time finalist at the Australian Open (2021, 2022 and 2024), will enter this year's Melbourne tournament as an outsider, behind favourites Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
The Russian, in good spirits as he kicks off his 2025 season, talked about his preseason and his decision not to play in a preparatory tournament:
"I feel great, very happy. You're on the tour, one day your second child is born and the next you have to fly to Australia.
But I'm fine, I've always said that I love tennis and I love to travel. The preseason was fantastic. It's been one of my best.
I've had a lot of time, we've worked for five weeks.
Last year, I did the same thing, no tournaments. The season is starting too early for me.
In Russia, December 31st and January 1st are very important days: Santa Claus comes to give you presents.
I'm getting to the age where I want to be at home for that. I don't see myself ever playing again before the Australian Open, because I like spending this time with my growing family.
I think you're going to see a lot of interesting things from me, I've got a lot of motivation."
