It looked as though Andy Murray was leaving Miami on a positive note on Sunday evening. Despite his defeat by Machac, the former world No. 1 was quite satisfied with his tournament. We were also reassured after what we had thought was a simple scare, when the Briton collapsed in pain after twisting his ankle.

He was eventually able to resume the match and came very close to winning. More fear than harm, we thought at the time. But it was not to be. Murray revealed on his Instagram account that he had suffered a total rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and a near-total rupture of the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL).

Andy Murray: "Yesterday, towards the end of my match in Miami (against Machac), I suffered a complete rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and an almost complete rupture of the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL). I'll consult an ankle specialist on my return to determine the next steps. Needless to say, it's a hard blow to take and I'll be out for a long time. But I'll be back with a hip and no ankle ligament when the time comes 😉"

Sir Andy should be felicitated for playing through injuries and then sitting on the sidelines and still coming back🫡

Poor Andy.... Probably time to give that body a rest and start enjoying more time with the family. He has done his country proud throughout his career and overcome some huge obstacles

To be honest he could treat this as a sabbatical and just plan to come back next year again for his final year. I have a feeling he will not accept leaving it like this.

Andy will likely be back. The guy has been playing with a fake hip for some time now.

Those are serious and potentially very painful injuries. I was disappointed at the end of the match the way he was carrying on. Good lesson in not rushing to judgement. Clearly he was in tremendous pain and being the warrior he is, just couldn't bring his self to say the words, "I can't play!" and retire the match.

Hello I'm new

4j

I am surprised about relatively low attendance at Roland Garros which was the most popular slam 20+ years ago. I myself love it as well as really loving aus and us opens. I don't care about Wimbledon, sometimes maybe I can watch women's tennis. I hate Wimbledon's white dress code, I feel like I am watching junior tennis...I watched very few matches like Graf davenport final in 1999 the last time.....

It will really be befitting if he attains his 25th Grand Slam crown at the AO for he's truly the GOAT & this will stamp him & endorse his GOAT status without an iota of doubt

Almost as important to Djokovic as Slam #25--and requiring less luck--is beating Federer's total of 103 singles titles. He'll play 250s, and might even surpass Connors's 109.
