Djokovic wanted a new coach on one condition: "It had to be a tennis legend".

Novak Djokovic surprised the tennis world ten days ago by choosing Andy Murray as his coach for the Australian Open 2025.

Murray, Djokovic's rival for many years, will try to guide the former world No. 1 to a 25th Grand Slam title.

Questioned on this subject once again at his press conference in Buenos Aires, the Serb revealed what prompted him to make this choice: "There are several reasons for this new collaboration. After parting company with Goran (Ivanisevic) in April, I played without a coach.

I wanted to take my time to find out whether I needed a new coach or not. The decision was yes, but it had to be a tennis legend.

There aren't many players who have won several Grand Slams and are former world No. 1s.

Andy has known me since I was very young, from the age of 12-13. He knows my game very, very well.
