Serena Williams Cleared for Comeback: ITIA Reinstatement Paves Way for Tennis Icon's Return
At 44, Serena Williams Takes Major Step Toward Comeback, Stunning Tennis World. Reinstated in Anti-Doping Program, 23-Time Grand Slam Champion Could Soon Pick Up Racket Again.
On this Sunday, February 22, a tennis icon can officially make her return to competition.
Serena Williams, aged 44, is now authorized to enter tournaments as she wishes, after being reinstated into the anti-doping system of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
Awaiting Official Confirmation
Revealed earlier this month, this date already hinted that the 23-time Grand Slam champion had been preparing her comeback for some time.
Now, we must wait for confirmation from the player herself, who stated as recently as November on her social media that a return was not on the agenda, before suggesting a month ago on the Morning Show set that she might ultimately come out of the retirement she took in 2022.
Serena Williams could thus follow in the footsteps of her older sister Venus, who has been invited to several tournaments this season in both singles and doubles draws.
All with little to zero consequences and handled with kid gloves by the WTA and press.
