A little against the run of play, Jannik Sinner won the first set of the Beijing final against Carlos Alcaraz (7-6).
In a match of the highest level, the world number 1 was dominated throughout the set, but, showing unparalleled resilience, came back every time to finally take the lead.
Leading by a break, he broke just as his opponent was serving for the set, then saved three set points before winning the last four points of the tie-break to frustrate Alcaraz and move to within a set of the title (8 points to 6 in the tie-break).
Obviously frustrated, the Spaniard won't have to lose concentration if he wants to get back into this final.
Everything still remains to be done in Beijing after 1h14 of matches.
