Monte-Carlo, yes… but not at any cost. For Jannik Sinner, the priority lies elsewhere.
Qualified for the semifinals after another solid run, the Italian will face Alexander Zverev for a third clash this season, after Indian Wells and Miami.
At Monte-Carlo, however, the Italian's benchmarks are different. He was pushed this week, for example, dropping a set to Tomas Machac in the round of 16.
Zverev, meanwhile, battled to reach the final four, with two grueling nearly three-hour matches against Garin and Fonseca.
“We Came Here to See What I Need to Improve”
In his press conference, Jannik Sinner showed clear-headedness ahead of this third matchup of the season against the German.
The Italian expects a demanding battle: “He’ll be very aggressive, with an excellent serve. He’ll be a tough opponent to beat.”
In Monte-Carlo, Sinner is prioritizing work and progress above all, with specific goals in mind:
“I need to focus on myself. Regardless of the result here, the key is to be ready for Rome and Roland-Garros. That’s why we came. We’ve already identified things to improve.
A semifinal in a tournament like this is already very positive. I’ll try to recover, because tomorrow will be a tough match. But I can’t wait to play and give it my all.”
