Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation, is a happy man. At the end of 2024, a year in which Italy dominated our sport (Sinner number 1 in the world, Paolini double-finalist in a Major, Italian triumphs in the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup), he made no secret of his delight to our Ubitennis colleagues.

Returning to a number of subjects, he was asked in particular about Matteo Berrettini. Although hampered by injuries, the Italian colossus has nevertheless managed to win three ATP titles, while leading the Italian national team to the Davis Cup title (with Sinner).

On this subject, Binaghi was full of praise for the current 34th player in the world: "A great leader, an absolute creator. The day he stops playing, which I hope will be as soon as possible, I can see him as captain of the national team, in the role Volandri has now.

At the last Davis Cup, he was able to motivate the guys from the bench when he couldn't play, and this year he's been an absolute protagonist. A charisma that's not given to everyone. I love him."
