Holger Rune was initially set to compete in the ATP 500 tournament in Washington. The Dane was scheduled to enter the fray in the second round between Tuesday night and Wednesday against Alexandre Muller.

But a last-minute back injury forced him to withdraw at the final moment. On social media, however, the Indian Wells Masters 1000 finalist reassured fans about his condition, stating it’s not a serious injury.

"I had no luck. Yesterday during practice, my back locked up, and I’m not fit to play today. I’ve already tried, and there’s nothing dramatic—it’s just really bad timing because I was really looking forward to playing tonight in Washington. See you soon," wrote the world No. 9 on his X account (formerly Twitter) to justify his last-minute withdrawal.
