Tiafoe: "I'm going to learn from this".
Frances Tiafoe came close to reaching the first Grand Slam final of his career.
However, as in 2022 against Alcaraz, he lost in the US Open semi-finals.
However, while he had been heroic in battle against Alcaraz, eventually losing quite logically (6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3), this year it was he who dominated.
Facing Taylor Fritz, he seemed to be on the way to qualification for a long time, before totally collapsing at the end of the fourth set.
Defeated once again in 5 sets (4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1), Tiafoe explained that he had seen himself as too strong, too early: "At the start of the fourth, I was feeling good, I was returning.
I thought 'Oh, shit, I'm strong, I'm going to finish this fourth set, I'm going to be in the final'.
That was my way of thinking. In the previous matches, I was only thinking about what I had to do to win rather than what potentially lay ahead.
What I'm saying is that the year I've had and the fact that I'm almost in this favourable position has changed things.
I think I rushed it a bit. It's a bit rubbish, really rubbish, but I'll learn from it and be better in the future, that's for sure."
