In the end, Frances Tiafoe got off to the best possible start.
After a difficult start in which he was clearly dominated, quickly conceding his serve (0-3), the whimsical American went on to win the first game 5 games in a row (6-4 in 46 minutes).
Aggressive on serve and in the rallies, Tiafoe took advantage of Fritz's gradual deterioration to move a third of the way towards the final.
