Wawrinka smiles again: "Thanks for reminding me I'm old!"

Wawrinka smiles again: Thanks for reminding me I'm old!

At the age of 39, Stan Wawrinka is finally feeling good again.

Author of a rather chaotic 2024 season and only 217th in the world this week, the Swiss player is finally back on the road to success.

After defeating Brandon Nakashima (6-4, 6-4) and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-4, 3-6, 7-5), he has reached the quarter-finals, where he is set for a gala match against Andrey Rublev, world No.7 and No.1 seed for the event.

Interviewed on court after his victory over Davidovich Fokina, the Swiss seemed rather pleased when asked about his age: "I've just won my second match. So, please, let me enjoy it and think about the next one.

Thanks for reminding me that I'm really old. How nice! (laughs)."
