World Anti-Doping Agency may appeal Swiatek case

While Iga Swiatek has qualified for the 3rd round of the Australian Open, where she will face Emma Raducanu on Saturday, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is reportedly in the process of reviewing its doping case, which was revealed in November.

According to Italian media outlet Ubitennis, WADA may appeal against her trimetazidine contamination. But there are only four days left to make a decision, as January 21 is the deadline for appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

While we wait to find out whether there will be any new developments in this case, a WADA spokesperson sent this short e-mail to the Ubitennis website:

"WADA has no comment to make on the specifics of the Swiatek case, which is still under review."

As with the appeal against the doping case involving Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek could find herself in the same situation in a few days' time, right in the middle of the Australian Open.

This is just ridiculous. They've already determined the amount in her system was well below any amount that could give any advantage. Only detected because the new tests are incredibly sensitive.

Please give just in 5 grams of brain. Maybe double brain mass will stop all the noise 🤔

Listening to balding Nick Kyrgios too much. WADA has become an absolute political joke.
