'You Never Know When the Next Attack Will Hit': Holger Rune's Mom Details Qatar Ordeal and Rehab Struggles
Stranded in Qatar Since Attacks Began, Holger Rune Continues Achilles Rehab at Hotel as Mom Describes Missile Debris and Escape Dilemma
Since the start of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, and Iran's retaliatory strikes against its Middle Eastern neighbors, Qatar's airspace remains closed.
Holger Rune, who was continuing rehab for his Achilles tendon injury in Doha, has been stuck there with his family and team for several days.
"Holger continued his rehab at the hotel"
After criticizing the lack of help from the Danish government, Aneke Rune, mother of the 22-year-old player, spoke again to B.T. media. She described the difficulty of leaving Qatari territory:
"Holger continued his rehab at the hotel, because we didn't dare go out to Aspetar (a hospital) after missile debris fell nearby. We're fortunate that they come here to treat Holger when we don't feel safe going out.
You get used to it a bit. We thought the situation had calmed down slightly, so we carried on with normal life, hoping the airport would reopen soon."
"I have a plan to leave"
"Then the questions come back: could the situation get worse? Should we head to neighboring countries and try to leave, or is that riskier than waiting for the airport to reopen? There are attacks across the Middle East, so what's safest?
I'm used to organizing trips, so I already have a plan to leave. The main question is what's safest. The security firms we've consulted recommend staying.
But staying is tough, because you never know when the next attack will come, how bad it will be, or how close. So in a way, it starts to wear on you."
